한국의 고고학은 1960년대 초반부터 시작되었다. 그간 200 곳의 구석기 유적을 조사하였고 그중 30곳은 발굴이 진행되었다. 전기 구석기 층에서 발굴된 단면기, 양면기 등은 환상열석 구분층과 관련이 있다. 중기 구석기 층에서는 작은 도끼, 긁개, 홈석기, 송곳, 주먹 도끼, 슴베, 르발루와 석핵 등이 출토되었다. 후기 구석기 조사에서는 작은 손도끼와 송곳, 조각기, 다면 석핵을 이용한 슴베 박은 첨두기가 발굴되었다. 한반도의 구석기 문화는 중국과는 다르지만, 시베리아와 유사하다.
