The end of the cold war, the expansion of free markets, the development of technology and communications have conspired to transform the world into diverse and multicultural societies. Is this a blessing or a curse? At the turn of the new century, we witness in this world increasing amount of terror, violence, and atrocities around the globe on a daily basis. Politicians and leaders of international institutions have a difficult time in dealing with violence in various form. Yet this is also an opportunity to create a harmonious community in which diverse cultures and values co-exist in an environment of mutual respect.
Through 2009 International Forum Peace and Civilization, we hope to identify reality of crisis and seek viable solutions with eminent thinkers from around the globe. Readers can encounter Nobel Peace Laureate Shrin Ebadi, pragmatist philosopher Richard J. Bernstein and many distinguished voices discussing numberous hot-button issues in the era of multiculturalism including the dialogue among civilizations, the contemporary relevance of the Asian Tradition, and the new digital ethics.
